TECHNIQUES FOR VICTORY OVER TEMPTATIONS PECULIAR TO YOUTHS
We have been dealing with the series on how to become a champion. We had discussed the fact that champions are faced with challenges. Overcoming challenges is a necessary ingredient to becoming a champion. When you yield to the temptations or challenges on our ways then we are not able to become the champions God has called us to become. Today’s study is to show us some God given techniques to overcome the challenges that are common to youths.
1. Recognize the nature of immoral invitation: 1Pe 5:8; The first technique is to Recognize the nature of immoral invitation: It may be subtle- cunning and crafty; it may be seductive; or sensual- appealing the flesh with momentary pleasure but regrettable outcomes.
2. Rejecting invitation to participate (Proverbs. 1:10; 5:3-14; 7:1-27, 1Co 6:18,) To overcome invitation to participate in immoral practice you must: Reject invitation into immoral practices. Reject it with the Scriptures like Jesus Christ ( Matt 4:4); a strong will as Ruth Ruth1:16; a serious outlook (Job) Job 19:25; steadfastness (Joseph)(Gen 39:8) and sound principles (Uriah) (2Sam 11:9-11).
3. Resisting influence from the misused of modern technology (Exodus 23:2; 1Thess 5:21-22; 2Ch 26:15-16) Youth must resist the temptation to misuse modern technology but resolve to tap its positive influence: Set spiritual and academic goals; seek how modern technology can accelerate the fulfillment of your set goals; separate from those who misuse technological innovations and stick to godly principles no matter how distracting the misuse of technology may be.
4. Refusing false impression of drug addiction (Proverbs 23:29-35; Pro 20:1; 2Sam 13:28-29; ) Youths must realize the final peril of drug addiction. It brings enslavement to drugs instead of inner power; an ever-increasing deterioration of health instead of a strong personality; separation from others good people. Therefore, refuse the false promise of drug addiction.
